Well well...Lyndon State...here we are...another school year has come....Can you believe it???!!! I swear I am still in 2007...so behind on time...What an exciting time of the year though! I love it!
I am beyond thrilled that we have a new group of students here (Go first-year students!) and looking forward to seeing returning students.
So, what's happening? We are in the 2nd week of classes now and the campus officially is alive with students...YEAH!! How's the whole studying thing going? I bet it feels strange (especially for first years) to be back on a college schedule....practice, class, study, class, study, eat, eat, class, eat, talk to buddies, eat, practice, sleep, class, fun, eat, sleep, etc. Is that what it looks like for some of you students? That's what it looked like for me years ago when I was in college. I imagine your days are filled! I hope the year is off to a great start for each one of you!
We had our 2nd frost of the fall (well, technically it is still summer...first day of fall is on the 22nd) last night...insane that we are already getting frosts!! I believe it was 26-27 degrees last night (yikes!!) and then this morning while walking my dog it was around 34-35 degrees...and of course, I had shorts on...brrrrr....I am stuck on summer temps! Need to get the 'ole sweaters and coats out now.
Autumn is awesome though...one of my favorite seasons for sure! The leaves have actually (in some places) have started turning into bright oranges and reds...it's going to be beautiful here very soon! Be sure to enjoy it for some of the students who are new to the area/region...go hiking, biking, swimming (if you are brave), apple picking, kayaking/canoeing, hit the local farmer's market, etc...become a leaf peeper!! (tip: don't drive too slow while looking around at the scenery/ trees though b/c the car behind you will more than likely be a local who will want to keep going...and may/may not be a happy camper)
I am hitting the road for admissions here on Sunday..heading to NH and ME for college fairs and high schools to share with prospective students what LSC is all about...I might be in your area (if you are a soph./jr./sr. in high school) so come see me at a fair or check with your guidance office to see if I am coming to your high school. Also, my amazing colleagues might be in your state so check out our fair schedule on-line on our website....We would all love to meet you!
OK..that's it...so happy to have you all back on campus, students!!
Have a great weekend....it's Family/Alumni Weekend so enjoy yourselves!

Summer is zipping on by!!! I can't keep up!
Can you believe it's July already and almost August??!! It blows my mind that the start of school is just around the corner. Since I posted last a lot has been happening on the LSC campus, which if memory serves me correctly my last posting was after LSC students had just left for the summer. Time as you can see has passed me by!!
I saw incoming meteorology freshmen, Dan from Long Island, at "SOAR" (student orientation advising registration) a few weeks ago, and he reminded me that I haven't been as diligient about posting as promised. So folks, this is my renewed promise to keep up with my postings because I know you all are anxious as ever to hear the tales of admissions and of course, tidbits on my life happenings.
Where to begin??! As of today, we have had 3 sessions of SOAR so far this summer (about 500 students and parents have attended--rough estimate). It's been awesome to see (and meet) all of the new students that will be coming this fall. And, especially the ones that I have worked with for over a year now. There is much excitement and nervous energy in the air, which all comes with the territory of starting college....You really gotta love college! For me, this time of the year definitely is one of my favorites. I can't wait to see you all this fall (returning students too!) !
On a personal note...I am enjoying my summer immensely. My husband and I managed to get away for a vacation at the end of June...we ventured south (we drove the whole way!! Insane!) to the Outer Banks (NC) to meet up with my family for a reunion of sorts. It was a blast...we did a ton of swimming, bogey boarding, fishing, clam digging, long jogs on the beach (my calves are waiting for an apology!) sand castle building, eating and more eating. I felt utterly refreshed when I returned to VT....just seeing family always seems to renew my energy.
Hopefully, you all have enjoyed some vacations of your own this summer! A little r and r never hurt anyone!
And, to give you all an update on my husky, Kenai...he is growing like a weed...he is now over 60lbs! Yep, you read that right, he has grown steadily, eats like a hog, and is hyper as ever (just think of what kids are like on pop rocks and soda). I will post a recent of photo of him next time I write.
I shall close...time to start wrapping up the day...More later...

Congrats GRADS!
The time has come and gone for the seniors here....Graduation was on Sunday and what an amazing day it was! I know all the high school seniors out there are anxiously awaiting their time...which is coming soon I would imagine or has passed already....early to mid June, right?? Almost there guys!! And, then it's time for college!! Are you pumped up yet???! In just a few short months you will be packing your bags and moving on to the next chaper/phase/etc. in your life.
Aside from all the graduation news...the campus is sadly very very quiet now that the students have left for the summer. :( Quiet is very hard for me. Loudness (not loud loud...you know what I mean) is definitely my way of life. The energy I feel when you (the students!) are around is very contagious and makes the days very uplifting....not saying I'm not uplifted during the summer...it's just a more exciting environment when students are running through the halls, practicing on the fields, studying it up in the libraries, pumping iron in the gym, swimming laps, playing guitar by the pond....you get the picture...
Anyhow, I shall close...lots to do...Again...Congrats and Hooray to Grads! Bask in this time of your life because it only happens once! :) Have a most joyous summer!

Happy sunny May day!
OK ok ok...I did it again I know...it's been a month and 2 days since I last posted. I do have a good excuse though...drumroll please...I was requested to be a participant in an international hot dog eating contest in Beijing (did I tell you all that's one of my most beloved hobbies?)...yep, I flew across the world to eat hot dogs. It was actually a promotional event to help drum up support for adding hot dog eating as a olympic sport. I got to meet the best in the world, but I ended up placing 4th....ok...that's enough of that...Yeah...Just kidding....I don't even like hotdogs. I do love hamburgers though.
Well...let's see...I have been busy meeting with all (well, not every single one, but alot) of the wonderfully talented and bright seniors and rising seniors who visited and informing them of all the extraordinary aspects of LSC....it's been a lot of fun getting to you know all! Also, it's college decision time for seniors, which is an overwhelming and emotional task especially if there are financing concerns. Please do not hesitate to contact our finanical aid office (or any of the admissions counselors)...they are dedicated folks that will help you through the crazy maze of figuring out how to pay for college, which by the way I am still paying for and it's been 8 yrs since I graduated! I definitely get it when your eyes get big when talks of costs come in to play.
So, anyhow, it's been a busy month in admissions as I am sure it is for all the other admissions offices in every college/university in America. We all want you to come to one of our schools because we think you have something valuable to bring to the "table" (campus). As corny as it sounds...I do truly believe that each student has something unique and awesome to bring to LSC.
On a life note...things have been good. It's currently 70 degrees (let me hear a Whooppee to that!) and I am at home relaxing despite it being a work day...I took a personal day to recharge, unpack, do laundry, take the dog to the vet, clean my apt., go for a long run, etc. I was gone over the weekend to Washington D.C. (kinda close to Beijing?) to see my big brother get married, which absolutely was one of the finest and most amazing weddings I have ever been to. We had a clear view of all the big monuments (even could see President Bush eating dinner..yep...teasing again) and the Potomac was right under the building the reception was in....truly magical and tons of fun seeing the wedding and especially spending time with my family...all 7 siblings of mine, 12 nieces/nephews, and a crazy amount of extended relatives.
I hope all is well with each one of you...whether you are getting final projects/exams done before you high school graduation, studying up for the SATs, or preparing for a recital/theater production/softball game, etc....I hope life is good. I know LSC students are in their last week of classes for the year (summer is almost here!!) and some are in their last week of classes for life and will be graduating (Go Grads!)...I won't be a stranger for long this time because I have a little more time this month to keep informing you all of my wonderfully entertaining stories and happenings :)
Take care of yourself and each other, study hard for exams, and enjoy the beautiful weather! E

I am alive and well!
Ok ok ok ok....Again, it's been a very very I mean very long time since my last post...I know you all have been waiting patiently right next to your computers for something...anything...from me. My sincere apologies...So, here I am 1 month later...still busy as ever and looking at the snow that is furiously coming down outside my office window. Mother Nature where art thou? We need you right now to stop this madness. When you think April don't you think tulips, blue skies, green grass, shorts, flip flops...? Well, anyhow, that's Vermont for ya...What can do you?
We've had a crazy last few weeks here in the LSC admissions office. We had our final Accepted Student Day last Friday, which was a ball of excitement, energy and fun. I met more awesome prospective students...one being Danny from Long Island...thanks for coming, buddy and can't wait to see you in the fall! We all enjoyed not only having you, Danny, come but the other 50+ students and families that pushed on through passed the nutty weather we were so fortunate (yeah right) to receive that morning. Thank you all for coming again!
On the Hoyt homefront, I have been trying to get more runs in lately and I must add that my legs don't like me today (did hills yesterday). I have a race coming up Memorial Day weekend...it's the Burlington Marathon...I am doing the relay part, which is 1/2 of it (13.1miles). I did the full marathon 2 years ago, which was an absolute blast, but haven't made the time to train for a full one since then. Gotta put that on my life t0-do list.
Spring break starts today for our students, which is much needed because they need a break before exams start at the end of the month. You know what exams can do to ya?! Lots of sleepless nights and cram sessions.
I shall close...must feed the body...oh wow, it's still snowing out...imagine that?!!
Take care ya'll! I'll be back very soon.

Blonde Dye and Snow
Welcome to the month of March and more SNOW!!! AHHHH! We recently were graciously given 7 MORE inches of snow this past Saturday, March 1st....man, oh man...what a way to start March...this whole winter business is getting a little out of hand. Don't get me wrong, I love winter, but every year on a random day I feel a forceful tug for warmer temps and it just happens to have occured over the weekend. So, maybe it's the fact that some folks are coming back from hot, steamy places they visited over winter break (and bragging about it too!) or the fact that it was -22 last Thursday morning or perhaps that my husky pup is running to go inside because he is even cold (aren't huskies bred to withstand frigid temps!?)!!
Anyhow, I am ready to kick winter to the curb.....And, with that, I have a story...Here I am at Rite-Aid last Saturday afternoon feeling down about the increasing snow footage when I walk down the hair dye aisle...oh wow...hair dye could really change a girl around ya know...I haven't dyed my hair since 10th grade when I thought auburn was a hip color...well, at that time, I was obsessed with Sandra Bullock...Speed had just come out and it looked like a new, interesting color for hair. This trip I wasn't thinking Sandra Bullock I was thinking Sarah Jessica Parker...you know how the new movie, Sex and the City is coming out. Her hair color reminds me of the beach, warm temps, fun, etc.....in a nutshell, it makes me think of summer and how I wish it were summer right now. Get on with the story...I pick up the blonde boxes of dye and think maybe I shouldn't go all-out blonde (that would be too extreme..I don't want to look like some girl that poured bleach on her head..you know the ones), but perhaps a subtle blond to liven up my boring brown. I grab Loreal's version of "medium blonde" and how amazing too is that it's on sale..$5.99!!!...whooppee...I get home with high hopes to get myself through this seasonal slump with a box of blonde dye...and then magically Sunday morning, it will be summer!!
Well, in short, the blonde for some reason didn't really works its intended magic. My brown is a little lighter, but there is no hint of summer....SO, does this mean, we are stuck in winter forever?! I sure hope not!! :)
This is it for me folks....Welcome back students!! It is ever so wonderful to see your shiny faces around campus again!
More later....

Leap for Leap Year
It's Leap Day today....how exciting this is...We have an extra day this year...WOOHOO!! So, what should one do with an extra day??!! What are you going to do with your day??!
Well, let's see...since it's a Friday and it's a work day, I am pretty limited in what I can do with my day. Perhaps, though, I will go for a night snowshoe when I get home?! Or, call up some buddies to hang...oh the possibilities!
Students are still on winter break and once again, it's a ghost town around here. The week though has been really busy...I think I read 25+ files this week, made a million (well, not that many..you know what I mean) phone calls to prospective students to reconnect, worked on a few side admissions projects that I have going on, took the dog to get neutered, worked out, and put in some hours at my 2nd job, which is at a local clothing store. Hecticness for sure, but it's allgood. I am rolling with it. I think when you have a pretty nice balance of all the different aspects of your life then you won't go totally nuts...which I haven't yet, but who knows??! HA!
Time to return to all of my to-do lists on my desk...I hope everyone is having the most enjoyable Leap Day and break ever!!
Bye for now and drive safe back to campus, LSC students!! See you Monday!
